February 17th, 2016 USLF Board Meeting Summary

The USLF Board of Directors met February 17th for its regular monthly meeting via teleconference/meeting software at 6 p.m. Pacific Time.
- The USLF continues to be financially stable.  Treasurer Don Holthofer reported that we have filed our 2015 taxes.  He also presented the Finance committee’s draft budget for 2016.  The Board discussed at length several large dollar items proposed for 2016 and approved a final version of the budget that balances income with expenses and reduces outlays somewhat but keep our reserve funds at a conservative and fiscally responsible level.
- The Board decided that the 2016 annual member meeting will be held in conjunction with the Breed Evaluation Tour’s stop in Minnesota the last week of September.  Plans are underway to present the business meeting as well as the breed evaluation seminar as webinars!  The technical details are being worked out.  Not only will members be able to sit in on the annual meeting but view the Lipizzan breed seminar presented by our evaluator Dr. Yvonne Peeters.
- The Webinar committee is planning a series of informative webinars beginning in late March.  The first webinar will acquaint viewers with using the webinar software and then will present the results of the Lipizzan Census, followed by a question and answer session about the Lipizzan population data.  Later in June, a webinar is planned to present the results of the North American Mare Line Study.  Stay tuned for more details on how you can participate!
- And speaking of the 2016 Lipizzan Census Report, if you haven’t already done so, please complete and return your census report!  Forms were emailed out to owners who have been USLF members within the past three years.  The Registration committee has received completed forms from almost 30% of the members in the initial emailing and is very appreciative of the fast responses they have received.  Past members will also receive a census form listing their Lipizzans as recorded in the USLF’s files and we would appreciate any updates and information that will help us develop as complete a picture as possible of our North American Lipizzan population.
- Our Registrar has been fielding many new Lipizzan registrations and transfers as a result of the Lipizzan Census and thanks those Lipizzan owners who have come forward to register or complete the recording of the transfer of their Lipizzan for their help and support!
- The Calendar committee is moving ahead to solicit your best photos of your Lipizzans.  The form to sponsor a calendar page for the 2017 USLF Lipizzan Calendar is available on our website.  Members can submit up to six photos.  The committee is looking for professional quality pictures that best present our beautiful horses.  Please see our website for details and examples.  The calendar should be available for sale by September 1st and the deadline for photo submissions will be mid-May.
- The Awards program is being expanded to include an award to honor Ingun Littorin, well known Lipizzan breeder and supporter, who passed away last fall.  The award will be presented to competitors in the driving categories of the Lipizzan Laurels program and we’ll keep you posted with the details of how you can qualify.
- The USLF Board reports with great sadness the unexpected and sudden passing of Dr. Jaromir Oulehla, former director of the Spanish Riding School and of the Federal Stud at Piber.  The Lipizzan world has lost one of its finest champions.
- The next regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting will be March 16th.  The USLF Board meets the third Wednesday of every month.
