USLF December 17th, 2014 Board Meeting Summary

The USLF Board of Directors met December 17th for its regular monthly meeting via teleconference. 

- The USLF continues to maintain financial stability and is operating within budget.  The Finance committee is working on the 2015 budget.  Committees wishing for funding for their projects should submit their requests promptly.

- The USLF congratulates our USDF All-Breed Award Winners!  This year The USLF sincerely thanks our competitors for so successfully exhibiting their horses and wishes everyone luck in 2015.   

-  Our Registrar continues to process a consistent, steady stream of registrations and transfers.   Since the last meeting, three transfers and one registration have been completed and a number are in still process or awaiting paperwork.  Our Registrar also continues to update the ALBA Stud Book with the results of this year’s Evaluation Tour.  Once updated, the ALBA Stud Book, the only North American Lipizzan stud book containing evaluations scores of approved Lipizzans, will be for sale on CD and in print. 

-  Be sure to visit our new website!  The Board thanks our talented and creative Media committee for our new USLF website, featuring beautiful photos and videos, ease of navigation, and more features for our members.   

- The new USLF Awards program, Lipizzan Laurels, is open for registrations for 2015.  The upcoming newsletter will have the details.  In the meantime, signups are already underway. 

- The Loving Our Lipizzans committee reports interest in their new round of games, including upcoming holiday “bonus activities” appearing on their Facebook page.  

- The Lipizzan video produced by Horse Flicks TV is expected to air on HRTV in early 2015.  We’ll let you know the date as soon as we hear.  In the meantime, DVD’s are already on sale in our store, please visit our website!   http://www.uslipizzan.org/

-  The Board discussed at some length the Facebook postings of members interested in package tours to the 450th anniversary celebration of the Spanish Riding School.  The USLF cannot function as a travel agency to organize tours for our members but we certainly encourage people to participate in this important anniversary!   The Board will be querying its contacts with the Lipizzan International Federation for any plans they may be making to organize groups and we’ll let you know!

- The next regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting will be January 21st.  The USLF Board wishes everyone happy, healthy, and safe holidays and thanks our members for their support this year!  The USLF Board meets every third Wednesday of the month.

USLF November 19th, 2014 Board Meeting Summary

The USLF Board of Directors met November 19th for its regular monthly meeting via teleconference. 

- The USLF continues to maintain financial stability and is operating within budget.  The Finance committee is working on the 2015 budget.  The Board also discussed at some length its financial allocation to the Breeders Committee to support regular breeding stock evaluations and to our interface with the Lipizzan International Federation (LIF).  The USLF is very committed to developing and recognizing excellent examples of the Lipizzan horse and to establishing the U.S. Lipizzan community as serious and committed partners in international efforts to conserve this rare breed.

- The USLF congratulates USDF Finals High Score Breed Award winner Katelyn Myllykangas, riding Favory Canada in the First Level Championship, Adult Amateur division, scoring 65%.  This pair also placed fourth overall in their First Level Freestyle Championship class, Adult Amateur division, scoring 70.922%.  Amanda Johnson and Pluto VI Andorella also represented the Lipizzan breed, scoring 63.625% in their Grand Prix Freestyle Championship, Open division.  The USDF Finals were held November 6th through 9th at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky, and the results are found at http://www.usdf.org/usdressagefinals/ .  The USLF sincerely thanks our competitors for so successfully exhibiting their horses and wishes everyone luck in 2015.   

-  Our Registrar continues to process a steady stream of registrations and transfers.   Since the last meeting, one transfer and one registration have been completed and a number are in process.  

- The Studbook is also in the process of being updated with the results of this year’s Evaluation Tour.  Once updated, the USLF Studbook (the only North American Lipizzan studbook containing evaluations scores of approved Lipizzans) will be available for sale on CD and in print.

- Coming by year end will be a new USLF website with improved functionality, more and brighter visual content, more features for members, and expanded advertising and breeders’ directory.

- The new USLF Awards program, Lipizzan Laurels, is open for registrations for 2015.  The upcoming newsletter will have the details.  In the meantime, signups are already underway. 

- The Loving Our Lipizzans committee is developing a new round of games, including Christmas “bonus activities” to help us dodge the winter blues; check their Facebook page for details.

USLF October 22nd, 2014 Board Meeting Summary

The USLF Board of Directors met October 22nd for its regular monthly meeting via teleconference. 

- The USLF continues to maintain financial stability; income this year continues to be ahead of budget as memberships grow faster than expected.   The USLF thanks you for your support. 

- The 2014 North American Lipizzan Symposium hosted by Temple Farms October 3rd through 5th was enjoyed by over 60 attendees.  In addition to the usual business reports and committee meetings, the USLF annual member meeting included presentations by Dr. Jeff Kelly on the St. Cloud database of Lipizzan pedigrees, by Lisa Kelly Simmons on the results of the North American Mare Line Study, by June Boardman on the Lipizzan International Federation Judges’ Training Clinic held in Lipica, Slovenia, and a special two-day presentation by Dr. Hilary Clayton on the Biomechanics of the Baroque Horse.  The Awards committee announced an extensive awards program for 2015 for our Lipizzan competitors in many disciplines in addition to dressage.  And the Loving our Lipizzans committee awarded prizes earned during their 2014 Games and previewed their 2015 Games.  The Tempel Lipizzans also provided a special performance, including Airs Above the Ground, and a Behind-the-Scenes stable tour.   

-  Elections for USLF Board of Director seats were also announced at the Symposium.  June Boardman was elected Vice President and Cheri Isgreen and Don Holthofer joined the Board for the first time, taking the seats of outgoing Directors Lyn Schaeffer and Linda Duggan.  Many thanks to Lyn and Linda for their dedication and hard work supporting this organization for many years!

- The USLF will award four high score Lipizzan awards, two for adult amateur riders and two for open riders at the U.S. Dressage Finals competition November 6th through 9th at the Kentucky Horse Park, Lexington, Kentucky.  Please see the USDF’s website for details. 

-  Our Registrar continues to process a steady stream of registrations and transfers. Since the last meeting, four purebred transfers and two new purebred registrations have been completed.

- The attendees of the Lipizzan International Federation’s General Assembly, held in Cesky Sternberk, the Czech Republic, reported to the Board that the presentations by Dr. Jeff Kelly and Lisa Kelly Simmons were very well received.  Ten Americans attended the meetings and were very pleased at the sense of international community and comradery they encountered.  Several countries offered to share their studbooks with the St. Cloud database.  The LIF will also soon have a Facebook page, thanks to Lisa Kelly Simmons who volunteered her assistance.  The USLF sincerely thanks the LIF for posting our Board meeting summaries on their website and for their support!  Please visit the LIF’s website at www.lipizzan-online.com.

- The USLF Bylaws require the Board to select a Secretary and a Treasurer for the year at the first regular Board meeting after the annual meeting.  Kathy Kelly will take on Lyn Schaeffer’s Treasurer duties and Muffin Smith will continue to serve as Secretary. 

- The next regularly scheduled Board of Directors meeting will be November 19th.  The USLF Board meets every third Wednesday of the month.
